The 6 Best Pastries at Arezmendi

The 6 Best Pastries at Arezmendi

Arizmendi Bakery, according to its website, "is a worker-owned cooperative specializing in morning pastries, artisan breads and gourmet pizza." And it's pretty much the best thing to hit San Francisco since Between their giant ovens, reasonable prices and freakin' delicious pastries, it's sure to brighten up any morning. Here are six of my personal favorites:

1. The Kalamata Olive Sourdough--Savory and delicious, finding the olives scattered in this roll are the best part. Plus, it's just the right size to take the edge off when you're waiting to get into Lime--which is convenient, because they bake them on Sundays!

2. Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie--Dear Arezmendi: HOW DO YOU DO THIS? My coworker brought me one of these recently, and it was like a party in my mouth. A party where even the guests were eating delicious things.

3. Fancy-ass Pizza--Never before in my life have I thought to myself, "God, I wish there were potatoes on this pizza." Until now, that is. Arezmendi's available pies include artichoke hearts, pesto, aioli, mushroom blends, and--of course--potatoes. What's next, nachos?

4. Coffee Cake--En route to a fancy midday party where they're not accepting "beer" as a contribution? Pick up a coffee cake and be the hero of the day. Well. Maybe two, so you're not tempted not to keep it all for yourself.

5. Wolverine Bread--Admittedly, a lot of my motivation for buying this treat initially was the name. But it's stuffed with nuts, dried fruit, and honey--and you don't even have to have adamantium coming out of your knuckles to enjoy it.

6. Cheese Rolls--Full disclosure: I haven't actually eaten one of these guys (please see: staunch vegan jerkface). But my good friend ate her first one when we were breakfasting and her eyes quite literally rolled back in her head. No kidding.
