5 Reasons To Stay In Town This Labor Day Weekend

5 Reasons To Stay In Town This Labor Day Weekend

If you’re stuck taking care of your cats while your friends gallivant off to Shasta and Tahoe, don’t fret. Here are five sweet (cheap!) events for you to drown your Labor Day sorrows in.

1. SF Zine Fest—Saturday and Sunday, the County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park, 11 am-6 pm

More than 150 cartoonists, writers, layout artists, crafters, illustrators, printmakers, and other creative types will be at the County Fair building this weekend to hawk their wares. Get your neo-Riot Grrl on with panels on memoir comics, graphic journalists, hipster hilarity, and more. Plus, it's free!

2. Hard French--Saturday, El Rio, 3158 Mission Street, 10:00 pm-3:00 am

El Rio's monthly queer party will have all the hot girls, dudes, and everyone else out to jam. Enjoy some of the last warmish nights of summer while rocking out--just make sure some of your more questionable photos don't end up on Hard French's active Facebook page!

3. Bernal Heights Outdoor Cinema Under the Stars--Thursday-Sunday, Bernal Heights, 6:30 pm

The Outdoor Cinema festival specializes in the quirky, the absurd, and the heart-wrenching. Bring a blanket and don't be surprised when a cartoon about a lonely squirrel brings you to tears.

4. Doin' It In The Park--Golden Gate Park Marx Meadows, Sunday, 12-6 pm

Recreate that elusive Outside Lands experience a month later with dozens of live DJs. Plus, free veggie burgers and hot dogs! Need we say more?

5. Shakespeare in the Park--Presidio Main Ground, Monday, 2:30 pm

Wind up your weekend with Cymbeline, a Shakespearean tale of shenanigans and (we bet) happy endings. Bring some ale and some bawdy humor, and it'll be the 1400s all over again! Except with more camera phones.
