5 Great Places to Get a Haircut in the Lower Haight

So you're strolling along Fillmore toward some delicious Three Twins, when you look in the mirror of a Whole Foods and notice--egads! You are in desperate need of a trim, my friend. Luckily for you, you are in a neighborhood with a somewhat inexplicable plethora of places to get your mop chopped. Here are five of the best:

1. Zip Zap Hair--I went to ZZ once sporting what I can best describe as a "Peter Pan mullet." For a comparably reasonable fee, they made sure that Captain Hook would never darken my doorstep.<br/
2. Blown Away Salon--Blown Away has some of the least expensive cuts on the block, with a free glass of beer or wine with every cut to boot. Just make sure you don't take en vino veritas too seriously, or that old cliche of telling your hairstylist all your secrets might come a little too true.

3. Wak Shack Salon--I'm a little too old for prom, which is a bummer, because my totally lame updo circa 2006 would have been revolutionized by the folks at Wak Shack. They are ace at thinking outside the box when it comes to styles, which is great for people who had trouble even filling in the lines as a child. Plus, they offer makeup consultation. Whee!

4. Edo--I always feel a little awkward walking into Edo in jeans; it's definitely a classy affair. But the stylists always take care of me, barely even sneering at my clearly slapdash personal style. I also hear tell that they are pretty great indeed at taming male locks.

5. DiPietro Todd Salon--This one's a little off the beaten path, but it's worth it. I once received a haircut from DiPietro at the behest of a lovely stylist who took one look at my head and physically pulled me off the street to fix it. Needless to say, he did a fabulous job.
