4 Great Ways to Get Outdoors This Weekend

4 Great Ways to Get Outdoors This Weekend

Autumn's chilly tendrils are breathing down our necks, so time to get outside while you can! Here are four things to do to get your green on before everything turns gray.

1. PARK(ing) Day--On Friday, bits of the great outdoors return to the city streets! Volunteers will set up portable, temporary "parklets"--green spaces that appear between two meters throughout the city. Different parklets offer opportunities for wine, tea, snacks, yoga, or just hanging out. Go to ParkingDay.org to find the parklet near you!

2. San Francisco International Dragon Boat Festival--I'm gonna be honest, here: I have very little idea what a dragon boat actually, er, is. But all the more reason to get myself to the SFIDB, the largest competitive Dragon Boat festival in the United States. Go and see over 110 Dragon Boats racing, along with music, dancing, and awesome food. Which, I can only imagine, will be flame-broiled.

3. Sunday Streets in Chinatown--Hankering for arts and crafts in Kerouac Alley, some live entertainment at Coit Tower, or a tour into Chinatown's history? Sunday Streets is for you. With miles of car free roads, you can feel free to enjoy the weekend sunshine without fear of vehicular danger. Plus, there's a massive Ping Pong tournament! Everybody wins!

4. The Art Explosion Fall Open Studios--Meet over 130 artists as they open their studios to the public. Explore, drink wine, and enjoy the early afternoon sunshine as you entertain the vague notion that someday, you will have art on your wall that you didn't find at the Alemany Flea Market.
