Mount Tamalpais

Mount Tamalpais

Mt. Tamalpais is the highest peak north of San Francisco at 2571 feet. From the south, Mt. Tam has the profile of a sleeping woman. There are 6300 acres of oak woodlands with 50 miles of hiking and biking trails, and excellent views at the summit’s visitor center. It’s a long and winding road up the mountain, but well worth the trip. Guided ranger hikes range from easy to strenuous and moonrise and moonlight hikes. There are also astronomy evenings from April through September, with lectures, stargazing and public storytelling.

The park is open from 7 a.m. to dusk everyday but the small visitor center is only open on weekends from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. in the winter and 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. during the summer. www.mttam.net
