San Francisco is a relatively small city and is contained within a relatively compact peninsula. Obviously, San Francisco has fantastic seafood and Chinese cuisine, but a city of this sophistication will offer just about anything you can think of, from authentic Italian food in North Beach, to uber-trendy restaurants, such as Slanted Door. Don’t expect to find a lot of fast food within the city though, as it appears to be not allowed with the exception of a few key areas around Union Square.
The hotels in San Francisco are generally quite affordable for a major city. Sure, you can pay high rates if you insist on staying in the tourist areas such as Pier 39. Instead, consider staying in the core hotel district around Union Square or just south of Market Street (SoMa). In these areas, hotel density is high and you’ll generally find good rates.
San Francisco is a world-class city and thus finding a good doctor of any discipline or specialty will not be a problem. There is a relatively new Kaiser Permanente just west of Van Ness, and PPO doctor groups otherwise throughout the city. If you really need a rare specialist, you need only travel 30 minutes to Stanford Medical center.
